Do I need an SUV to drive in El Salvador?
Not for the main highways, the airport route or the surf coast. You want one if your plans include volcano access roads, the highlands around Ruta de las Flores, coffee fincas or beaches reached by dirt tracks.
Is an SUV the same as a 4x4?
No. Many SUVs are two-wheel drive with higher clearance, which handles most rough roads here. True four-wheel drive is only necessary for steep unpaved climbs, especially in the rainy season.
Can an SUV reach the Santa Ana volcano?
