No Deposit Car Rental in El Salvador — Nothing Held on Your Card
Agencies here typically block $500 to $1,500 on a credit card for the length of your rental, and release it weeks after you get home. We block nothing at all.
What a rental deposit actually costs you
A security deposit is not a fee, so it is easy to dismiss. In practice it is the part of a rental that causes the most trouble on a trip: several hundred dollars of your credit limit are frozen for the whole rental and often for two to four weeks after it ends, while the release works its way back through the card network.
On a two-week trip that is exactly the money you wanted available for hotels, restaurants and flights. And if you travel with a debit card, most agencies here will simply refuse the rental.
Carvi removes the mechanism entirely. No hold, no pre-authorisation, no blocked funds — before, during or after. Your exposure is a $499 deductible that applies only if there is an accident.

How a rental works without a deposit
Nothing pre-authorised
Not a hold, not a temporary charge, not a pending transaction. Your card shows the rental and nothing else.
Debit cards work
Because there is no hold to place, you do not need a credit card with headroom on it.
Insurance instead of a deposit
Coverage and damage protection are included in the price, which is what the deposit was standing in for.
A capped worst case
The most you can owe is the $499 deductible, and only after an accident. There is no open-ended liability.
Verified both ways
Owners and renters are both checked before a booking is confirmed. That is what replaces the financial hostage.
One clear invoice
Fuel, fines and the deductible if applicable. No mystery charge appearing a month later.

No deposit car rental — frequent questions
Do you really not hold anything on my card?
Correct. There is no security deposit, no pre-authorisation and no temporary hold at any stage of the rental.
Can I rent with a debit card?
Yes. Since no hold has to be placed, a debit card is accepted for the booking.
What am I liable for if something happens?
Up to the $499 deductible, and only in the event of an accident. Damage protection covers the rest.
How much do other agencies in El Salvador hold?
Commonly between $500 and $1,500 depending on the vehicle, held for the rental period and released some weeks after it ends.
Is a credit card needed at pickup?
No. Bring your driver's license and passport. The card you booked with does not need to be presented for a hold.
Will I be charged for fuel or fines later?
You pay for the fuel you use, and any traffic fine you incur is passed on with its official documentation. Nothing else is charged after the rental.
